Living next to a creek presents a unique set of challenges, most of which can be solved with the construction of a sturdy creek retaining wall. For this project in Coppell, we built a new retaining wall using “rip rap” concrete bags, which allowed us to level out the homeowner’s backyard.
Creek Retaining Wall Overview
This type of wall works great in areas where it’s difficult to bring in heavy equipment and/or the wall will be exposed to water. First, we excavated the area around the creek, making sure to clear grass, brush, roots and other organic material away. Then, we laid a concrete bag foundation and added steel reinforcing rods. We continued building the wall with sturdy concrete bags, which cure and harden, until reaching the desired height.
