Railroad Tie & Cross-Tie Wall Replacement

Railroad-tie and cross-tie walls were the standard across DFW in the 1980s and ’90s — and nearly all of them are now at the end of their life. Replacing a failing tie wall is one of the most common projects JCL takes on.

Why tie walls fail

Wooden cross-ties rot from the inside out, and the spikes and rebar pins holding them lose their grip as the timber softens. Add North Texas clay pushing from behind and the wall starts to lean, bow, and separate at the corners. Once a tie wall tips past vertical it’s structurally done — patching it rarely lasts, and a sudden failure can take out a fence, patio, or slope with it.

What replacement involves

JCL removes the old ties and hardware, corrects the drainage and grading that usually caused the failure in the first place, and rebuilds with an engineered system — most often Milsap or Granbury stone, or concrete block for taller walls — that’s designed to be permanent. We handle the tear-out, haul-off, permits, and finish so you’re not left with a demolition mess.

If your tie wall is leaning, has soft or crumbling timbers, gaps opening between ties, or soil washing through, it’s time to replace rather than patch.
