Terraced & Multi-Tier Retaining Walls

When a yard drops too far for a single wall, terracing it into two or more levels turns an unusable slope into flat, planted, livable space — and spreads the load so each wall does less work.

Why terrace instead of one tall wall

A single tall wall carries enormous load and often triggers engineering and permitting thresholds. Stepping the grade into tiers reduces the height and pressure on any one wall, creates usable planting or patio terraces between levels, and usually looks better on a residential lot. It’s a common solution in the hilly parts of DFW — Las Colinas, Highland Village, and lake-adjacent neighborhoods.

Getting the spacing and drainage right

Terraces only work when they’re engineered as a system. If tiers are set too close, the upper wall surcharges the lower one and you’ve effectively built one tall wall with hidden stress. JCL spaces and offsets the tiers correctly, engineers reinforcement where needed, and runs drainage through every level so water steps down instead of collecting behind the top wall.

What terracing makes possible

Terraced walls create level lawn, tiered gardens, seat walls, and stepped access on ground that was too steep to use. We build them in Milsap and chopped stone for a natural look or in engineered block for maximum height, and integrate stairs where you need to move between levels.
