When a pool should come out completely
There are two ways to take out an in-ground pool. A partial removal breaks the top of the shell off below grade, holes the floor so it drains, and fills the rest. A full removal takes the whole structure out of the ground, floor included, before anything goes back in.
Partial removal is faster and costs less, and for a yard that is only ever going to be lawn it is often the right call. Full removal is the right call when the owners want the footprint to stay buildable, or when they simply do not want a pool shell buried under their yard.
This homeowner chose full removal. The pool had a raised deck around it and a deep end that would have left a lot of concrete in the ground, and they wanted the option of using that space for anything later without an inspector asking what is under it.
The other constraint was the usual one for a North Richland Hills back yard: a single side gate and a fence a few feet from the water. Every piece of that shell had to leave through that gap, and every load of fill had to come in the same way.

What a full removal buys you
A buried pool shell is the thing a buyer’s inspector asks about ten years later. Taking all of it out removes that question, and it removes three physical problems with it.
Nothing to hold water
An intact floor left in the ground holds water like a bathtub, and the soil above it stays wet. With the floor out, the restored ground drains like the yard around it.
Nothing to settle against
Fill placed over a buried shell settles differently over the concrete than over the soil beside it, and the outline shows. Fill placed on native ground settles evenly.
Buildable ground
With the shell gone and the fill compacted in lifts, the footprint can carry a slab, a shed or an addition later. A partial removal leaves that to an engineer’s judgement.
A clean disclosure
A removed pool is a material fact in Texas. A permitted full removal is the simplest thing to hand a buyer: there is nothing under the yard to explain.
