What an unused pool actually costs you
A pool nobody swims in does not sit still. It keeps drawing money for chemicals and power if you maintain it, and if you stop, it turns into what the first photo shows: standing green water behind a fence, breeding mosquitoes and taking up the best part of the garden.
It also takes up the flattest, sunniest part of most Lewisville back yards. That is prime space for a lawn, a patio or a play area, and while the shell is in the ground none of that is possible. Homeowners often tell us the yard felt half the size it should be.
There is a resale angle too. A pool in poor condition reads to a buyer as a bill they will inherit, and a fair number of buyers with young children rule out a pool house entirely. Removing it widens the pool of people who will consider the property.
The other thing this job needed was a wall. Taking a pool out changes the shape of the ground around it, and where the yard has any fall across it, the new level has to be held. That is why a stone wall went in as part of the same job rather than as a second visit.

Permits and utilities
Pool demolition is permitted work in Lewisville. JCL pulled the permit and had the gas, water and electrical services to the pool equipment located and cut back safely before anything was broken up.

Draining and disposal
The water was drained to the point the city requires rather than simply pushed into the storm drain, and the pool equipment was disconnected and removed.

Breaking the shell
The upper walls came off and the floor was holed right through in a regular pattern. Those holes are the whole point of a partial removal — they stop the shell holding water like a bathtub once it is buried.

Backfill in layers
Fill went in and was compacted in lifts rather than tipped in one go. Backfill dropped in loose is exactly what settles into a dish two summers later.

The Milsap stone wall
With the levels set, we built the retaining wall on a compacted base with drainage aggregate behind it, holding the new grade at the low side.

Grading and clean-up
The yard was finished to an even fall away from the house and the site swept. What was left is ready for sod or seed.
Why it lasts
Partial removal, done so the ground stays put
Partial pool removal has a bad name, and it earns it whenever it is done badly. Done properly it is a sound, permitted method — these are the parts that decide which one you get.
The shell must be perforated
A buried pool floor left intact becomes a bathtub. It traps water under your lawn and the ground above it stays soft. The floor gets holed right through, on a pattern, so water passes.
Rubble is not fill
Broken shell can be buried, but it is not a substitute for engineered fill and it cannot be dumped in as a void filler. Voids between rubble are what collapse later.
Compaction in lifts
Fill is placed and compacted in layers. This is the single biggest difference between a yard that stays flat and one that sinks.
Disclosure
A partially removed pool is a material fact when the house sells. It is permitted and documented, which is exactly what a buyer’s inspector wants to see.

What is the difference between partial and full pool removal?
A partial removal takes out the upper walls, perforates the floor and backfills over it. A full removal takes the entire shell away. Partial costs less and is the usual choice; full is the answer when you intend to build a structure on that ground.
How much does pool removal cost in Lewisville?

Will the ground where the pool was sink later?
Not if the fill is compacted in layers and the floor is properly perforated so water drains through. Settlement is a symptom of skipped compaction, not of partial removal itself.

Yes — it is a material fact in Texas. That is one reason the work is permitted and documented, so you can show a buyer exactly what was done and how.
Can I build a patio or shed where the pool was?
A patio or lawn over a properly backfilled partial removal is normally fine. Anything with a foundation — a garage, an addition, a structure — needs a full removal. Say so at the estimate and we will scope it that way.
Why did this job need a retaining wall as well?
Removing the pool changed the levels, and the yard falls across its width. The wall holds the new grade so the restored ground stays where it was put.
