Before & after
Before and after: pool and spa to level ground
The same courtyard, with the house's sliding doors in the background of both shots. The pool, the spa and the deck between them are gone, and the ground runs level from the doors to the covered walkway.

A pool with a house wrapped around it
This Lewisville pool had been empty for a while. The water left in the deep end had gone dark, the shell was full of leaves and branches, and the spa beside it was in the same state. Nobody was going to swim in it again, and it was sitting a few feet from the family’s doors.
What made this job different was where the pool sat. The house wrapped around it on three sides, with brick walls, a roof over the walkway and the living space looking straight onto it. There was no open back yard here. The pool was, in effect, inside the footprint of the home.
That changes everything about a demolition. Equipment that would roll straight into an ordinary yard has to be sized to the gap it can get through. Every piece of broken concrete leaves the same way it came in. And the brick, the roof and the glass are all within reach of the work.
The owners wanted the pool and spa gone and the courtyard back as usable ground. A partial removal, done carefully, was the right way to get there without disturbing the house around it.
How this pool came out
-
Free on-site estimate
Robert walked the courtyard, measured the access and quoted a firm price for removing the pool and spa and filling the space.
-
Permits and utilities
JCL pulled the City of Lewisville permit and had the electrical and plumbing serving the pool and spa located and safely disconnected first.
-
Protecting the house
With brick, a roof and sliding glass doors on three sides, the work was planned so nothing swung or dropped toward the house.
-
Demolition
The deck, coping and the upper walls of the pool and spa were broken off below grade and the floor opened so water can drain through.
-
Debris out
Concrete and tile left the courtyard load by load through the access that existed, with nothing stockpiled against the house.
-
Backfill in compacted lifts
Fill went in in layers, each compacted before the next, so the ground will not settle into the outline of the old pool.
-
Grading and clean-up
The courtyard was graded level and swept down, with the brick, the roof line and the doors left as they were found.
Why it lasts
Why tight access does not mean a worse result
A pool that is hard to reach takes more care and more trips, not a different standard. The three things that decide whether restored ground behaves are the same here as in an open yard.
The floor is opened
A partial removal only works if the pool floor is broken through so rainwater drains into the soil below. A sealed shell under fill holds water like a bathtub, and the ground above it stays soft.
The walls come down below grade
The top of the shell is taken down well below the finished surface, so there is enough depth of real soil for grass or planting above and nothing hard sits just under the ground.
Fill is compacted in lifts
Loose fill tipped in all at once settles for years and shows the shape of the pool. Compacting in layers is slower, especially when every load comes through a walkway, and it is what keeps the ground flat.
The house is left untouched
In a courtyard the measure of a clean job is what did not happen. No chipped brick, no cracked glass, no damage to the roof over the walkway, and no debris left behind.

Lewisville pool removal questions
Can you remove a pool that is enclosed by the house?
Yes. Equipment is sized to the access that exists, and debris leaves the same way. It takes more trips and more care around brick, glass and roof lines, and JCL plans the work around protecting the house. The result is the same level, compacted ground as an open-yard job.
What is a partial pool removal?
The deck, coping and the upper part of the pool walls are broken off below grade, the floor is opened so water drains through, and the space is backfilled and compacted in lifts. The lower shell stays in the ground. It is faster and costs less than a full removal and suits a yard that will be lawn, patio or planting.
Does the spa come out with the pool?
On this job it did. An attached spa is demolished the same way as the pool: walls down below grade, floor opened, filled and compacted along with the main shell, so the whole footprint is one piece of ground afterwards.
Will the ground sink where the pool was?
Not when the fill is placed and compacted in lifts and the floor has been opened to drain. Settlement in the shape of the old pool comes from loose fill or a sealed shell holding water underneath.
Do you need a permit to demolish a pool in Lewisville?
Yes. JCL obtains and manages the permit as part of the job, and the work is inspected and documented, which is what you want on record when the house eventually sells.
How much does pool removal cost in Lewisville?
It depends on the size of the pool and spa, how equipment reaches it, and how much concrete has to leave the property. Access like this courtyard adds labour but not surprises: JCL gives a firm quoted price at the free on-site estimate, and that price is the bill.
