Before & after
Before and after: from a bank to a wall
The same corner of the house before and after. The worn, patchy slope is gone, replaced by a straight Milsap face and level ground in front of it.

More before

Why a slope like this needs a wall
Before the work, the ground dropped away from the house in a long bank. Grass grew in patches, with bare soil showing through along the face, and a worn path ran down the slope where people had cut across it.
Bare patches on a slope are the early sign of erosion. Every heavy rain carries a little more soil downhill, and North Texas clay sheds water fast once it is exposed. A bank like this does not stabilise on its own; it slowly moves.
A slope also wastes space. Nothing sits flat on it, it is awkward to mow, and it cannot be walked on comfortably. The owners wanted the ground back as something they could use.
The answer was a new retaining wall. Cut the bank back, build a wall to hold the higher ground, and leave level ground in front of it.
How the Prosper wall was built
-
Free on-site estimate
Robert walked the slope, measured the run of the wall and quoted a firm price for the whole job.
-
Permits
JCL checked what the Town of Prosper requires and handled any permit the wall needed.
-
Cutting back the bank
The slope was excavated back to a line for the new wall, leaving room behind the face for the base and backfill.
-
Building the wall
Milsap stone was laid and mortared into a straight face that follows the line of the yard, with the top finished level.
-
Grading in front
The ground in front of the wall was graded flat, turning the old slope into usable yard.
-
Clean-up
Spoil hauled away and the site left clean, ready for sod or whatever the owners choose to put there.
Why it lasts
What makes a new wall last in DFW clay
A retaining wall on a slope carries the weight of the soil behind it, and in North Texas that soil swells when it is wet. JCL builds for that from day one.
A real base
The wall sits on a compacted base below grade, so the first course does not move when the clay around it shrinks and swells through the seasons.
Water with somewhere to go
Water trapped behind a wall is what pushes it over. Drainage behind the face and weep points through it let the water out instead of loading the stone.
Natural stone, mortared
Milsap is a dense Texas sandstone in warm tan and gold tones. Mortared, it makes a solid face that suits brick homes and weathers well.
A warranty behind it
Every JCL wall carries a 5-year warranty in writing, and the price quoted at the estimate is the price on the bill.

Prosper retaining wall questions
Do I need a retaining wall for a sloped yard in Prosper?
If the slope is eroding, hard to mow, or taking up space you want to use, a wall is usually the right fix. It holds the higher ground in place and gives you level yard in front of it. Robert will tell you honestly at the free estimate whether a wall is worth it.
What is Milsap stone?
Milsap is a natural Texas sandstone in tan, gold and brown tones. It is dense and weathers well, and mortared into a wall it suits the brick homes common across Collin County.
How long does it take to build a new retaining wall?
Most residential walls are a matter of days on site once any permit is in hand. The length and height of the wall, and how easily the crew can reach it, decide the timeline. You get a realistic schedule with the quote.
Will clay soil push a new wall over?
Not a wall built for it. DFW clay swells when wet and pushes hard, so JCL builds on a compacted base and gives water a way out from behind the face. Walls without drainage are the ones that lean and crack.
Do you handle permits in Prosper?
Yes. JCL checks what the Town of Prosper requires for the wall and obtains and manages any permit, so you do not deal with the paperwork.
How much does a new Milsap stone retaining wall cost?
It depends on the length and height of the wall and how much excavation it needs. JCL gives a firm price at the free on-site estimate, and that price is the bill. There are no change orders.
